STUCK IN TIME

I came across this lovely portrait yesterday of Katherine of Aragon. It has just been sold at Christies for 151.000 Pounds. So a bit above my budget but it would be lovely addition to my starting art collection. Haha! keep on dreaming!.I have come to appreciate portraits more and more. There is something fascinating about these persons sitting in front of you, stuck in time.

PERFECT SUNDAY

I decided do to nothing all day yesterday. Wen you're working on your thesis, doing nothing doesn't seem to be anyhting you can afford. But when you're working four days a week and trying to finish up your thesis. Things can be become a bit much.

So I took the car yesterday and drove to the forrest with a friend. Berre in the back. We spend a lovely afternoon walking and talking an playing with Berre.

So after the fresh air the cozy dinner with friends and perfect early night in. I WILL ROCK THIS WEEK! and finish my thesis!

STAR

I bought this star a couple of weeks ago at Ikea (Love the Swedes) and I can't stop admiring it! The past few years I haven't been that christmassy in my apartment. So I thought it was about time. So I stocked up on candles I bought this star. I so wanted  a christmas tree but we will be leaving for Sweden the 21st of december so we it feels a bid sad to have a lonely christmas tree in the apartment. I have some special DIY christmas decoration planned as well. I got the idea from the store where we are busy preparing for the christmas shopping window!

But first here is my star!

SUNDAY'S BEST

Today was a most amazing day. Waking up slowly reading a magazine while having breakfast. We headed to beach where the sun was breaking through and weaves where wild and beautiful. I love the beach the most when the whether is cold and the sea is ruff and the sky has this amazing grey color. After returning to the city and having a stroll through my favorite parts drinking coffee browsing through stores. We have now returned home, where the candles are lit and we have slowly started putting up christmas decoration just because I couldn't wait any longer!

I was going through an old issue of lonny and saw these pictures again of India Hicks her home in Harbour Island. As I started thinking of a possible move to Sweden I can see myself living in a combination of Swedish and this kind of romantic Colonial style.

 

I saw this in a toiletroom of a friend of mine like 5 years ago. It has always stuck by me. Now I see it here again and it has such cool playful vibe. I really like to do this someday. My toilet is looking like shit these days so maybe I should start a d.i.y.

LET'S GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY

Wow! it has been so long. I am not saying anything about my abscence it is to boring.

I just got back from a job hunting trip to London. Seriously no one offered me a job on the spot! And I looked amazing! Even though I am kidding ( a little bit). I am still a bit bummed out. I got three leads but one i can already flush down the toilet... I had an amazing time though but it just makes me want a job there even more.

I am just wandering if maybe I just want it to much. And because of that nothing is happening. I really don't get it. WHY AM I NOT FINDING A JOB?!

SUMMER LAP TOP CLEANING

You know it's time to get to some lap top cleaning when you're trusted partner in crime is acting like your grandmother. The annoying rainbow colored circle is on your screen more often then not. So on this windy kind of rainy (what else is new) summer sunday I am inside shifting through all my files making back ups. I know you should always make back up, but better late then never wright?

While shifting through my files I found some images I forgot about.

A PERFECT SUMMER RECIPE

It's been raining. again! A whole day of just rain. After two days of perfect warm wheather I thought the whether gods had finally decided to give our little county it's well deserved sunny time. But no. Back to the rain.

I decided to brave this rainy season by pretending it's very much the summer I am craving for. So when I saw this recipe I thought it would be a perfect way to end a summer dinner.

ONE DAY WEEKEND

Last night I decided to bakes something. I've been completely into baking again. It's such a nice way to relax and let your mind just rest for a bit.  After having some head breakings on my thesis it was just what I needed. I just discovered this blog cupcakesandcashmere.com ( I know I am late, but I am late in general on this whole blogging thing. I love the way how she mixes fashion with lifestyle) and she recomended this recipe for baking a galette. I didn't know what this was at first but it looked delicious.

I had some fresh rhubarb at home so I decided to make this pi but exchange the fruits for rhubarb. As I am a Dutch girl the measurements got me all confused so for the pate brisee I used this Dutch very simple recipe. The result was i have to say quit delicious. It maybe missed some whipped cream or ice cream, but B loved it. As a swede he is a big Rhubarb fan so it wasn't hard to please him on this. Today I got bag from work and I actually liked it even better cold.

Tomorow I have another day of, so maybe in between writing I will bake something else. B will not like this as he is on some kind of ridiculous health plan. Well bad luck for him and more for me I say!

SUNDAY MORNINGS

I love sunday mornings. The quit empty streets make me feel very at ease and relaxed. This morning me and B took Berre out for a walk and past by our favorite magazine store. We stacked up on magazines and walked home.
After some not so good days it was great to start of the sunday morning like this. Now I am back behind my lap top trying to get started on my thesis. But I am very tempted to bake something today. So I think I might move myself to the kitchen. It's sunday after all, not a day to do something stressful.

FUNKY DAY

Today is a day when nothing seems to work. A stupid misunderstanding with my boss. Where I feel very frustrated. A thesis that just doesn't seem to be getting finished. Ever! Just a general feeling that this day sucks! So what to do? 

Taking in a few deep breaths. Try to get the frown of my head and just get on with my day. But still I am working my ass of with at work filling in with for everybody and working way more then I should be. I think I deserve some credit. Arrrgg! 

So I got that of my chest. So maybe today I will focus on my own art dealing business. I have to photograph the paintings I bought and see when the next auction is. 

I am on the hunt for the perfect sweater. I think I got pretty close today. But this one is still my favorite!

I FEEL LIKE BAKING

As I pretend with my friends and random people I meet to be a real princess in the kitchen. I am starting to realize that the truth might be far from it. The results are more often than not mediocre at it's best. My boyfriend is sweet he says my cooking is delicious. (But he is used to his moms cooking and I think she doesn't now pepper and salt) There are some dishes that over time I have fine tuned and I can honestly say that they are quit good. My pasta bolognese is one of these. But I have to say that this has more to do with my moms Ethiopian spice mixture I can't live without. Everything will taste good and exotic with that mixture.

The other thing is baking. I read about it a lot and I can spend hours just looking at pictures and recipes on the internet. (the blog call me cupcake is one of my favorites!) In my head I've been making these wonderful layered cakes and cupcakes and the most delicious macarons. But the sad truth is, the best thing i've made is a lemon cake with a box where they put on the recipe! Ouch!

I blame my kitchen, honestly who can work in a small  old galley kitchen like mine? And really, I don't have all the right equipment either. So who can blame me? And my supermarket doesn't have all the fancy ingredients from these recipes. So when i figured out all these obstacles, I know for sure that I will be one of these women who can whip up a five coarse meal for 10.

So maybe tonight, after a day of browsing Martha Stewarts recipes, I will try a simple cupcake.

WEDDINGS, WEDDINGS, WEDDINGS

Well it really is wedding season for me. As I am hitting my late twenties people seem be to be popping out babies and getting hitched all around me. I have been sceptic for a while but after I've attended some of the most romantic and fantastic weddings and seem some of the cutest babies ever. Things are starting to itch. I want to be as gorgeous looking as my friend S, and have a the pretties babygirls as my friend C. But after contemplating these options I realize it's not for me, jet.... So my dear boyfriend can exhale and relax. For Now!

KEEPING FOCUST IS LIKE AN ART

Another day spend behind my lap top. Luckily I had a little break from writing when I was working in the shop for a couple of hours. Sale started today and it's been crazy!
At the moment I a completely stressed out. How will I ever finish! It just seems like I never will. Graduating just seems so far away at the moment. I have these moment of insecurity when I just think that I will never succeed in anything. God how depressing is that! Anyway I decided to have a look at my inspiration folder.

ROMANCE

I've been in a romantic mood these last days, which have included romantic night with lace, candles and wine. Lots of soft pink peonies and roses. Maybe it's because B is leaving ahead of me to Sweden and I won't see him for a couple of weeks.

BEAUTIFULL DAYS, WITH BEAUTIFULL FRIENDS

The last weeks I've been having so many precious moments with my friends. After tough times there is nothing better than relaxing and enjoying with people you love. Walking around the city, enjoying late night dinners and cocktails, long talks and just laughing a lot. I have been laughing so much these days I have stomach pain!
And I have fallen in love with London! I love this city, it's so vibrant and alive and so many new things to discover. I thought we would be moving to Sweden in a little while but I think I will convinve my man that we should move to London for a couple of years.
